But first, let me mention the benefit of a free education this nation offers to all children. Sadly a great number of children do not understand or appreciate the gift of a free education. The ultimate result is children that mature into adults.....that are ignorant adults.
Luckily for us a little common sense can go a long way, even with dumbasses! As always I try to insert a little humor with the lessons shared in these essays......so look for the human, but focus on the lesson about life you are about to receive......
Marriage is a wonder thing, when two souls find one another, stand before their families and friends then swear to God to spend the rest of their lives together..... Sadly about half of those couples are hoping God was just teasing and before long they are on the hunt for another love of their life..... LOL, I know someone that has posted a pic of the love of her life 5 times.....(some of my t-shirts have lasted longer than a few of her great loves....)
My wife and I have managed to survive over a quarter of a century together, and as a result we have learned a few things about staying together..... Marriage is a partnership and no matter how much love you have for each other, you will always be 2 separate individuals.
Translation, you will not agree on everything. Some days you will have minor differences, but there will also be days when the fights are loud, your opinions will stand 180 degrees from each other and a compromise is required to stay together and move forward sharing your lives.
I assure you the family's children hope you can work things out.... Two parents in a home is such an advantage, if not an outright blessing. Sadly it only takes one person to be stubborn, to dig in and hold on to a "want" or "opinion" while refusing to accept any other point of view.
Often decisions are not made by popular votes or opinions, but with a consensus reached by a compromise..... Think about the compromises in your relationships/family...... where to live, what home to buy, where will the kids go to school, when to purchase a new car.....
Those were some major decisions that require often require compromises.....but I've had fights over minor decisions too, how about you? Stuff like: what's for dinner, is everyone drinking water when we go out.... what movie to see or does my daughter's skirt cover enough......
Why did I start this essay speaking about education, and then drift off into a dialog on marriage and decisions that can tear a family apart? Because I wanted you to open your minds....consider both sides of the debate (about any topic) and then I spring the surprise topic on you.....
The electoral college. No marriage is perfect, opinions will vary..... Our great nation is no different, think about guns, abortion or illegal aliens. Then consider that a person from a left leaning state like California and a rural state like Missouri will likely have opinions that land 180 degrees from each other....
Do you rush out and file for a divorce? Or do you try to save your family and search for a compromise..... The electoral college creates a venue that promotes compromise.... California has nearly 40 million citizens, while Missouri numbers are closer to 6 millions, but both sates have just 2 U.S. Senators......
If decisions were left to a popular vote.....chances are Missouri would vote twice, once with a ballot and then with their feet when they file for "divorce" and leave the Union.....
Back to education.... the Electoral College was a lesson plan when you were about 14 years old, and lacked the maturity to grasp what you were learning. There is a good chance many adults still do not understand that it is respecting the rights of the minority that makes it possible for their marriages, relationships and country to thrive and move forward...... Love is great, getting along is the secret to longevity!!!
